IFC 2009 – Plenaria di chiusura: “active citizenship is the only antidote”

La plenaria di chiusura si è aperta con un video, commissionato esclusivamente per l’IFC 2009 e prodotto dall’agenzia RAPP, che mostra gli eventi principali e i trend che hanno disegnato e influenzato il mondo della raccolta fondi nel 2009.
Il video ha anticipato in modo efficace il tono grave dell’intervento di Ingrid Srinath, segretario generale di Civil Society Network CIVICUS, che ha lasciato i partecipanti dell’IFC con un messaggio molto forte “Things would get tougher in 2010, and tougher still in 2011”.
Secondo Ingrid Srinath quindi gli effetti della recessione si faranno sentire nei prossimi 2 anni e il peggio deve ancora venire.
Ecco alcune sue parole
“Charities supporting less fashionable causes would have a more difficult time. Those with more marketable causes will get the lion’s share of the funding in a difficult, competitive marketplace. Organisations working at the grass roots to tackle the causes of injustice are going to struggle.”
Durante l’intervento di Ingrid venivano proiettate sullo schermo alle sue spalle delle citazioni, brevi frasi in lettering bianco su uno sfondo nero:

L’impressione è che la relatrice volesse riportare l’attenzione di tutti i partecipanti sull’attuale situazione mondiale e su quanto lavoro ci sia ancora da fare affinché vengano raggiunti traguardi fondamentali come sconfiggere la fame nel mondo, raggiungere la pace tra paesi e garantire il rispetto dei diritti umani.
Il tono non poteva non essere grave ma la volontà chiara era far sentire i partecipanti responsabili di un cambiamento possible “We know from experience that active citizenship is the only antidote to this takeover of governance and that investing in the creation, nurturing and protection of civil society rights is the only vaccine. We know, or ought to, that empowering people to defend their own freedoms to exist, engage and express is not only the most sustainable development strategy but the only morally defensible one. We recognise the opportunities these crises present to reconfigure our economies, our societies and our systems of national and global governance so that power, assets and voice are distributed fairly. What kind of philanthropy would it take to create a truly civil society? Is it do-able? Is it affordable?”
